Christmas is the season of giving. And there’s nothing more fitting for the holiday season than gifts that are more than a token of love to someone in your life–but to someone trying to break free from slavery in some other part of the world.

The FairTrade movement is growing, and it is such an important cause to be a part of whenever possible. That’s why here at Adornabelle, we would like to kick off our gift guide series for this up coming holiday season with a guide dedicated specifically to some of our favorite Fair Trade gifts from companies we love.fairtradeChristmas

Not only will these gifts make your loved ones happy, but they will help share a little bit of the Christmas spirit with men and women around the world who are being given a chance to work a respectable trade and earn a fair wage. And that to me, is exactly what Christmas should be about. So while you are planning your shopping list, I hope you will join us in making this Christmas a lot more of a FairTrade Christmas than ever before!

What’s Under our  Fair Trade Christmas Tree

Fair Trade Friday Earring of the Month Club

So…did you know that a pair of earrings can change the world? It’s actually true!

When I first heard of Fair Trade Friday, I was really excited. I can’t think of a better box of the month club than one that is filled with gorgeous Fair Trade products of all sorts from around the world. And then I found the Fair Trade Friday Earring of the Month Club. It’s a variation of the traditional Fair Trade Friday Club, but this time it’s all about earrings.

Earring of the Month is an option of Fair Trade Friday, the monthly membership club that is changing the world. With this option, members will get a high quality fairly traded pair of earrings delivered every month in a unique reusable bag. The earrings and bags are created by women in impoverished countries all over the world and every membership employs two women. 100% of the proceeds from each pair of earrings goes to the empowerment of oppressed women as an avenue to introduce them to the Gospel. read more…

I love the fact that every membership gives two women an income and a job they can be proud of. Take a look at all the different places the products that go into these Fair Trade Friday boxes come from.  And the earrings are gorgeous, too!

Come Together Trading

The best way to change the world is to join hands with others who have the same vision that we do and form a community. That’s exactly what  Come Together Trading has done. After seeing for themselves the extreme poverty that much of our world lives in, they decided to do something about it. So they started a venture that now represents more than 100 artisans in 33 different countries. With so many incredible products to choose from, Come Together Trading is one of my favorite places to browse. I put this pom pom scarf on my wishlist, in fact.

You won’t just find Come Together Trading on the web though. They also have a store front in their local community in Texas. What a wonderful way to promote Fair Trade products within a community!

All Across Africa

Do you want to gift someone a success story this Christmas? Then I highly recommend that you check out All Across Africa! All Across Africa’s jewelry and makeup bags are colorful, well constructed and so much fun to use. I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful products and the stories that All Across Africa puts into their products. It not only makes me feel like I am making a tangible difference when I use one of my All Across Africa products, but I feel like I actually have a personal connection to the artist whose handiwork I am wearing because I get to know their story.  I love that. The people you gift one of these products to will love getting to know the artisan behind their product, too.

Ten Thousand Villages

Layout 1Ten Thousand Villages is another company that has banded together with a lot of different artisans to create a pool of fair trade products in almost every category.  What I love about them is they have such an incredible variety. I’ve looked for a long time to find cute, fair trade hair accessories and Ten Thousand Villages is the first place I’ve seen something other than headbands from fair trade artisans.

The only downside to Ten Thousand Villages is that some of the products aren’t available online. However with a wide range of stores around the country, there’s a chance that you can find a store near you to shop in, too.

Last year we shared a few of the Fair Trade gift ideas that we were using to put gifts under our trees. And as always, we love your recommendations! If you have a favorite Fair Trade product or company that we should know about, let us know in the comments. We’d be excited to check them out!

These look like wonderful companies. Checking out Ten Thousand Villages now. 🙂 I love Come Together. They have very reasonable prices. Thanks for sharing. I also entered the $500 giveaway at one of the stores, but I am not sure which one. LOL 😉
