Why I Love Cowgirl Dirt Mineral Makeup

I honestly didn’t think a lot about the ingredients in my makeup before I had children. I mean, I could tell which brands gave me acne and I tried to use good moisturizers that helped with my dry skin without making me break out. But the makeup itself wasn’t a huge concern of mine, as long as it stayed on my face.

But then suddenly these tiny humans were snuggled close to my face all day, giving me slobbery wet kisses and, I realized, pretty much eating my makeup in the process. Suddenly all those things I’d read about not putting anything on your skin that you wouldn’t eat took on a whole new meaning. It wasn’t just my body I was affecting with my makeup choices–it was my children’s.

I’d used some other makeups (both natural and not so very natural), but I wanted a solution that fit my budget and my lifestyle. I’m not a girly girl who wears a lot of makeup or always has jewelry on. (I don’t even have pierced ears.) I wanted a makeup that would cover what it needed to without it looking like I’d painted my face. I wanted a makeup that would enhance my natural features in such a way that it wouldn’t be completely obvious if I didn’t have time to put on makeup that day. So I started researching this thing called mineral makeup that my Facebook friends were talking about.

Why I Love Cowgirl Dirt Mineral Makeup #giveaway

After reading a lot of reviews and trying many samples, I found a mineral makeup brand I love so much I don’t ever plan to switch. Cowgirl Dirt is a Christian-owned, family-operated, Montana-based small business I am proud to support. Here are just a few of the many reasons why I heart Cowgirl Dirt:

1. All Natural Ingredients

A quick Google search for mineral makeup brings a lot of results. But the ingredients also take some Google searches to figure out. I like to be able to read an ingredients list and know what the words mean. It’s a bit scary to ask my husband if he knows what an ingredient in my makeup sample is and have him tell me it’s used with welding! Probably not something I want to put on my face.

I love that Cowgirl Dirt makes it easy to review all the ingredients they use in their products. Ingredients which are all natural, easy to recognize, and pass the “Google research” test, I might add.

2. Affordable Price

I don’t place a lot of priority on makeup. It’s a necessary evil (you know what they say–“if the barn needs painting, paint it”) but one I don’t want to spend a lot of time or money on. That’s why I love the fact that Cowgirl Dirt makeup is very affordable.

Not only is the price good, but the variety of products they carry allow you to choose your coverage option without having to layer on gobs and gobs of makeup. I don’t wear makeup every day of the year, but I’ve ordered a large (12 gram) Mineral Powder Foundation about twice a year since I began using Cowgirl Dirt in 2011.

3. Best Color Names Ever

Some makeup companies scare me away with just their advertising. Cowgirl Dirt isn’t like that. Yes, their models are wearing more makeup than I ever would feel comfortable in, but they’re still rocking their cowboy hats and looking comfortable in their own skin out in the open country air. It’s nice to have wholesome and cheerful looking makeup models for a change!

But one of my favorite things about Cowgirl Dirt is the color names. Y’all, they have Alfalfa eye shadow. How cool is that? I wear Stampede and Barnwood right now, but I’ve also tried and loved Renegade Rust, Silky Leather, and Saddle Up. I tried the Coffee Bean Silverado Cream Eye Shadow but prefer the powder varieties, especially those with a bit of sparkle to them. (But who wouldn’t sparkle while wearing eye shadow called Stampede or Hay?)

4. Powdered Foundation & Amazing Brushes

Cowgirl Dirt was my first experience with powdered foundation, and I love it. (Though it’s still a learning curve not to get too much powder on my brush and have it end up on my shirt instead of my face!) I love that it’s light coverage that gets a bit heavier and darker the more I add. I love that it doesn’t stay caked on but looks natural and washes off easily each night. I love that I can easily dust some more on quickly when I have a mirror handy without feeling like I have to apply a whole new batch of coverup, foundation, and powder. But I really fell in love when I finally broke down and ordered one of their amazing foundation brushes–it felt like I was truly dusting it on my skin (I didn’t realize how nasty the bristles on my former brush were!). (Cowgirl Dirt also has the Southern Belle Cream Foundation if you prefer a smooth, full-coverage rub-on rather than brush-on foundation. I’ve tried it and really like it, too!)

5. Mascara

When I was a teenager, I was always on the search for the true waterproof mascara. You know, the kind you could cry or go swimming in and not have black eyes. Well, then I realized the kind of ingredients in mascara that is completely waterproof. And I was scared to buy mascara. Until Cowgirl Dirt came out with their own Lash ’em Up mascara. Which I love. Even if a huge crying session leaves me with a black mark or two under my eyes. (Seriously, a huge crying session leaves enough of a mark on my complexion that a bit of mascara should be the least of my concerns, right?)

Great giveaway! We’ve been making the switch in our home as well. We were SO careful with what in our bodies but much less so with what was going ON our bodies. So this has been a huge focus for us over the last month or so.

I bought some samples from Cowgirl Dirt, and it was great! I really enjoyed what I got. I haven’t really worn make up before, one reason being the ingredients. I didn’t want to risk my health just to look a little prettier. With Cowgirl Dirt, I don’t think I need to worry about it. :]

I’ve been watching Cowgirl Dirt for awhile, and bought a few samples, but haven’t actually bought any full size products besides a eyeliner pencil. I really want to try their Southern Belle foundation. And get a mineral foundation that’s the right color (the samples I chose were all too dark). But I’m trying to save money, so a giveaway is awesome!

I’d like to try their foundation and eye shadow. I got some mascara and love that! It’s super easy to use, doesn’t clot, and doesn’t get all over my face when I accidentally touch or rub my eyes either!

I didn’t want to get an entire make-up stash in one time since that would be kinda pricy, so I’m going to replace the stuff I have one by one.

Ever since I read a raving review you did on them a few years ago I just had to have it… I mean…CowGirl Dirt? I can actually wear makeup and not feel prissy 😉 Plus that it is safe…makes it so much better! Right now I only use make up once a month, if that much, since I don’t like putting chemical junk on my face.

With Cowgirl Dirt I don’t have to worry about that one!
