Why I Never Liked Boots Before
For a girl who stands five feet in high heels, boots can present a problem. I’ve never been the girl to go for boots when shoe-shopping because, well, aren’t they all knee-high (which would translate to thigh-high for me)?
Then a heart-sister got married in November. I had a super-cute purple dress and no shoes that would work with it. So I splurged, went to a store that sold only shoes, and found myself staring at some boots. They were soft gray and, lo and behold, low, short things that looked like they wouldn’t swallow my unsuspecting foot!
When I looked at the price tag and discovered they were on sale, I knew they were going home with me.
Why I Love Boots Now
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Those were my favorite shoes for a while because they were comfortable, adorable, and fashionable.
Why are they my favorite shoes no more? Because they got bumped to second-favorite-pair status after I found low boots in black (also on sale!). These are also comfortable, adorable, and perfect for trekking across campus this winter. I wear them inside jeans, outside jeans, with leggings, with dresses, with skirts…they are definitely my most versatile footwear.
Not bad for a girl who never liked boots.
My advice to short girls looking for a pair of boots?
Go Low
Shorter boots that rise to the ankles or hit mid-calf don’t make us look smaller than we already are. They go well with jeans and skirts and did I mention they’re insanely comfortable?
Did you fall in love with a certain accessory this year?
We’d love to hear about your find–and it doesn’t have to be footwear. Comment and tell us about it, or use the #adornabelle to tag us on instagram with a picture!

Rachelle is an author and editor who would much rather shop for books than for clothes (this must be why malls were invented). Her favorite accessories are a smile and a scarf. Her debut novel releases next year.
I’m 5 feet and I started with a pair of low boots, since I thought that would be safer;) I tried on some high ones but like you say, they almost reached my thighs 😉
But then this winter I got a pair of high boots as well, and those I wear with some skirts and then over my jeans with some tops.
The low ones are definitely the safest, most versatile. The high ones are nice if you are able to get an extra pair of shoes, but there’s only so much outfits you can wear them with.
The accessory I’ve fallen in love with this winter is scarves 🙂 I’m learning how to wear them, with what to wear them and with what not to wear them 🙂
Okay, that’s just plain encouraging to hear that it can indeed be done! And I’m so with ya on the scarves front, Naomi. I love them things! 🙂
This is extremely helpful! There are only a few pairs of boots I can really wear well because of my shortness. Thank you!
